49th Annual French Festival In Cape Vincent

Cape Vincent’s 49th Annual French Festival Celebration will be held. Saturday July 9th at 7:00 am when St. John’s Episcopal Church has a pancake breakfast at the church on Market Street. Breakfast consists of pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. The cost per person is $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for children 12 yrs. of age and under.

 

French pastries will go on sale at 8:00 am at the Fire Hall on Broadway Street. There are delicious Napoleons, Cream filled horns and many varieties of the decadent delights. They are on sale until they are sold out so get in line early. French bread will also be on sale in the morning and throughout the day while supplies last.

Over 200 Artists and Crafters will line the streets of the village and will be selling their wares. They will be open through the day and again on Sunday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. All crafts and exhibits open for the day at 9:00 am on Saturday. Some of the streets are closed off and the crafters are set up selling handmade and handcrafted items. Everything from handcrafted wood items to homemade fudge will be available for purchase. A few of the carts will be selling French Festival T-shirts, berets and buttons. Others will have French Flags, popcorn and balloons.

From 10:30 to 2:00 pm the Children’s program featuring a puppet show will be entertaining on the Village Green. The next performances will be from 3:30 to 6:00 pm. There will be street performers as well.

The official opening ceremonies for the 49th Annual French Festival will be at 11:00 am at the reviewing stand in front of the American Legion on Broadway Street. National anthems will be sung followed by Cape Vincent’s Mayor and Town Supervisor welcoming event attendees. Shortly following the welcome Miss French Festival 2017 will be crowned by Miss French Festival 2016. There will be a presentation of Miss French Festival’s court. Then Miss French Festival 2017 will read the proclamation and festivities will begin.

The parade begins at 2:00 pm with Napoleon leading the way. The parade will include floats, bands and over 50 units from the United States and Canada. At 4:00 pm awards will be given out to the winning floats by the French Festival Queen. From 4:15 through 6:00 pm bands will be performing in front of the reviewing stand. Some of the bands that have performed in the past are The Island Band, The Sea Cadets, Syracuse Fire Police Band, Antwerp Drum & Bugle Corps, Spirit of ’69, 78th Fraser Highlanders and Highland Mist Pipe Band.

St. Vincent of Paul’s Church on Kanady Street will be holding a Festival Mass that will be spoken in French at 5:15 pm. A gala fireworks display will begin at dusk, around 9:30 pm. The fireworks will be ignited from the Breakwall on the waterfront resulting in the greatest fireworks show in the 1000 Islands area.

The United Church of Cape Vincent will have a French Festival Community Worship Service at 9:30 am on Sunday, July 9th at the church on Broadway Street
